"Thinkin Bout You (Ryan Hemsworth Bootleg)" - Frank Ocean

True story: I tend to hate most remixes. In a day and age when remixes are cranked out like a factory, I’m very much a purist when it comes to music. I can’t stand it when a perfectly fine song needs to be remixed by 3,000 DJs and artists. Why? Just let the song be great, gottdammit.

Or when a collection of artists will circle-jerk each other with remixes of their own music, further glorifying themselves.

However, on rare occasions you’ll find a remix that subtly breathes some life into a track that perhaps felt a little sleepy. This is that remix. Slick, right?

“I Miss You” - Beyonce

Thank you, Frank Ocean, for writing this joint.

I remember listening to this song for the first time and having a dying need to figure out who wrote it with her. Stripping down a song to synths and drums, and then layering Beyonce’s lower and upper registers was such a simplified yet fresh take on that 80’s Genesis sound. Plus, these damn lyrics:

Words don’t ever seem to come out right
But I still mean them, why is that?
It hurts my pride to tell you how I feel
But I still need to, why is that?

I miss you, like everyday
Wanna be with you, but you’re away
I said I miss you, missing you insane
But if I got with you, could it feel the same?
